‘One Million People, Full Stop’ – My play, based on the short stories and vignettes of the acclaimed Indo-Pak writer Saadat Hasan Manto, is ready and looking for a production company. Manto turns his forensic gaze on the disaster that was the Partition of India, and explores the confusion and turmoil that infected the lives of ordinary people. Tragi-comedy is never far away. In my adaptation, I make a great deal of use of British regional accents and dialect to denote social status and to give the play a contemporary feel. Ideal for young people who have little or no knowledge of this period of their history. Ideal for older members of the British-Asian community who have a long-standing regard for Manto’s writing.
